Geremek Award for Outstanding Achievements in Democracy Promotion

The Award went to the entire democratic Belarusian opposition (collectively to the group). The ceremony took place 1 July 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

On behalf of the entire democratic Belarussian opposition, the Geremek Award Statue was received by Vladimir Niklaiev, also in the presence of other democratic opposition figures including Stanislav Bogdankievich and Olga Zavadskaya.

Ceremony led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Azubalis. Bestowement by Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Azubalis and Executive Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies Prof. Bronisław Misztal.

Award was granted by the Selection Committee consisting of the governments of the Community of Democracies' Troika, i.e.: Portugal, Lithuania and Mongolia, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Secretariat of the Community of Democracies and the Geremek Centre Foundation.

Statue embodying democratic values was designed and minted by the famous artist and sculptor Karol Badyna from Krakow, Poland.
