Gala concert at the National Philharmonic

A gala concert marking the 80th birth anniversary of Prof. Bronisław Geremk   was held at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw on March 20.  Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion  was performed by Le Concert Lorrain and the Nederlands Kamerkoor, with soloists Ruth Ziesak, Andreas Scholl, Eric Stoklossa, James Gilchrist, Dietrich Henschel and  York Felix Speer. The performance  was conducted by Christoph Prégardien.

 

Those present  included  Bronislaw Geremek's friends, family and  colleagues. First Lady Anna Komorowska graced the occasion. Former President Lech Wałęsa addressed a personal message to the gathering. Prof. Henryk Samsonowicz,  referring to the scholarly interests of his longtime friend, said that he had  embodied the virtues of a medieval knight as he was always ready to offer  help and advice.
