Tribute to Prof. Geremek at the Polish Embassy in France

On Monday July 13, on the first anniversary of the tragic death of professor Bronisław Geremek the Polish Embassy in Paris organised a formal in memoriam meeting.

The invitation of the Polish Ambassador to France Mr. Tomasz Orłowski was accepted by French politicians, scientists, intellectuals – co-workers and friends of the late Professor. Among them Mme Hélène Carrère d'Encausse, permanent secretary of the French Academy, former French ministers of foreign affairs, Mr. Jean-Bernard Raimond and Mr. Roland Dumas, former French ambassadors to Warsaw, including Mr. Pierre Menat, director of the Department for the European Union in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs who came as a personal representative of Minister Bernard Kouchner.

The meeting provided an occasion for personal tributes to professor, but also for presenting projects which constitute his legacy. The first of them was the Foundation – Prof. Bronisław Geremek Centre.

Another project consisted in opening on January 1, 2010 the Bronisław Geremek Chair at the prestigious French institute of Political Sciences (Sciences Po). According to prof. Georges Mink who manages the Project, the research carried out under the leadership of a professor who will be appointed in a competition procedure, will mainly concentrate on European integration and Eastern dimension of the European Union.
