Professor Bronisław Geremek (1932-2008), historian, one of the leaders of the anti-communist freedom movement, Foreign Minister of Poland, Member of the European Parliament, recipient of the 1998 Charlemagne Prize – architect of Polish democracy and the Polish path to Europe.
